Review: Maleficent is magnificent. The story is sophisticated enough to delight adult audiences with a brilliant take on the beloved tale with a delightful twist including the meaning of true love. The characters are sympathetic and there is enough excitement.The art direction and cinematography are beautiful. The fairy land scenes resemble a pre Raphaelite painting. The castle was a bit generic CGI. The right blend of human faces with CGI so it didnt look too animated. The director Stromberg who did Oz the Great and Powerful did an even better job here.Angelina Jolies expressive face is the perfect showcase for the character - it is the role of her lifetime. Like the way they did her cheekbones to make it like the Disney cartoon. Sam Riley as her sidekick morphs into many fairy tale creatures crow, dragon horse. The creatures are well done not awkward in movement and not overwhelming. Elle Fanning is sweet and picture perfect for the role of Aurora and Brenton Thwaites plays her prince. The fairies including Juno Temple and Imelda Staunton are cute too.Liked this more than the Snow White movies Mirror Mirror and Snow White and the Hunstman. The first was fun but a bit silly and the second was too grim. Maleficent is the perfect blend of excitement and fairy tale. Most enjoyable film of the year.

Review: I saw Man Of Steel last night at an advance screening and at no point was I looking down on the movie.From the trailers and TV spots the movie really gets you interested and dying for more.And the Movie itself soars(yes I know ha-ha)above the expectations.First of all Henry Cavill is an excellent Clark Kent/Superman.He really gives the character that not wanted or dont feel like you belong feeling.The cast in the movie is excellent including Russell Crowe and Michael Shannon.Russell Crowe really expands on Jor-els character and makes him more than just a voice helping Clark.Michael Shannon as Zod is terrific.He was even better than Superman 2s Zod.The fight scenes in the movie are astonishing.It makes up for all the lack of conflict Superman Returns had.The fight scenes are very destructive yes but there is a very good story around it so it wasnt just mindless explosions like Transformers.Man of steel was by far the best movie of the year.

Review: Spike Jonzes latest feature Her, set in the not-too-distant future, tells the story of Theodore Twombly (Phoenix) who finds himself falling in love with Samantha, an advanced operating system voiced by the sultry Scarlett Johansson. It is clear to see why this film was chosen by the National Board of Review as the best film of 2013: the visual style and extensive use of pastel colours is a triumph in itself, and the acting, editing, costumes and screenplay are all worthy of recognition.I went to an awards screening of Her and was pleased to find out that the film was not at all what I was expecting. It has such a distinct style, and Joaquin Phoenix carries the film with tremendous grace as the complicated and sensitive protagonist. The film is mostly Phoenix alone with Johanssons voice (reminiscent of Sandra Bullock in Gravity or Robert Redford in All Is Lost - two other 2013 films mainly revolving around one solitary character), but the audience never feels abandoned by the lack of other characters as we begin to forget that Samantha is just really just a computer.Her is a complex film with a much deeper meaning that lies beneath the surface. A beautifully crafted motion picture, this quirky love story is sure to resonate with you once youve seen it. It is an extremely interesting (and realistic) look at the future - Jonzes quaint and poignant film is a must-see! 9/10

Review: As a sequel to the 2011 original, Rio 2 continues in the tradition of its older sibling with screwball humor and madcap mischief. While maintaining a pedigree for celebrating song and dance through a kaleidoscopic burst of colors, Rio 2 is gorgeously rendered but offset by a clichéd script that is also laced with classroom lecture.This sequel begins in Rio de Janeiro where our feathered friends Blu and Jewel (Jesse Eisenberg and Anne Hathaway) discover that they are not the last of their species after all. Along with their three kids, they leave Rio and fly to the Amazonian rain forest where an entire flock of blue macaws was reportedly spotted. As it turns out, the flock exists and is headed by Jewels long lost father Eduardo (Andy Garcia) and guarded by her old flame Roberto (Bruno Mars). Now reduced to a stuttering parrot, Blu must man-up to his overzealous father-in-law (think Robert De Niro in Meet the Parents) while thwarting Robertos attempts (think Owen Wilson in Meet the Parents) at charming Jewel. While many such segments are genuinely funny, the story strays at times with subplots from deforestation to male bonding, before stepping into a puddle of teary-eyed melodrama. Kids laughed and adults clapped, but there were periods of silence too, and I am not referring to those brief scenes where death was implied.Emerging as a game changer in animated films, Blue Sky Studios, a subsidiary of 20th Century Fox, struck gold with its very first feature production – Ice Age (2002). Its been tunneling through a gold mine ever since. While Rio 2 might seem like a cash cow for some viewers, it is still a delightful animation with foot-tapping music to get your groove on. And like a Gloria Gaynor hit song performed by Clements Nigel, there is every reason to believe this sequel will survive.

Review: This movie, simply put, is worth each and every one of its 125 minutes. Including the closing credits, that you need to dry your eyes and think about what you just saw. Its the inspiring story of two young people who are no different then all of us, as they both are in the process of dieing. Though Hazel Grace and Augustus are more aware of this fact of life; because their „eternity has an expiration date, set by Hazels terminal illness: Cancer. As the viewer is put on an emotional roller-coaster, alongside the feelings and attitudes towards life and love the two teens share, this movie will be a key to many locked doors in the recepients minds. And through these doors we are lead by an ensemble of actors who are amazingly sensitive in their portrayal of personalities and emotions.The writing and directing is so brilliantly executed, that you have sympathy with every character this movie so caringly brings to (short) life. Even when they oppose another you feel unable to take sides. Because you find yourself sharing both. And when the credits role - like the tears on your cheek - you realize, that these opposing views are one and the same after all: Life.

Review: Finally the great zombie romance? Well, maybe not, but its the closest Ive seen. You get to see zombie life from the perspective of a zombie, who starts to get feelings for a girl whos alive. Through a set of circumstances, he rescues her and they take refuge in a grounded plane at an airport overrun by the undead. There were several original elements that I had never seen in a zombie movie. First and foremost is the narration by our young zombie giving us insights into his condition. He can barely utter words, but weirdly, in his head, he seems smart and talks normally. I liked that part and I was kinda sorry when he got somewhat better at talking, therefore evacuating most of his thoughts. Second original element was the romance. I wasnt impressed by it, but at least it was slow-building, somewhat charming, avoiding most of the disgusting stuff, and you kind of rooted for them by the end.Third original element would be the zombies not stuck as they are. They can evolve (our hero) or devolve (bonies, zombies who shed their outer skins, looking almost like black ghouls or skeletons). Speaking of bonies, I thought they looked amazing, creepy even, but their movements were stiff and made them look computer-generated. Also, who knew that eating brains for zombies could be a way for them to live vicariously the past life of the person they ate, through visions. Its not even the only way they can change, although the other way, though nice, seemed a bit far-fetched and too quick. Fourth original element was that there was sometimes a humanistic, hopeful even, vibe to the proceedings despite the dramatic elements. Theres something at the end involving the zombies and the bonies that I had never seen before. So the movie is more original than one might think, however the execution wasnt flawless.Sure, overall, I found the movie had charms, but for me the laughs were few and far between, like most romantic comedies I suppose. Because its supposed to be one of those, but with obviously more somber elements. The drama could have used more teeth to make this film truly memorable and moving though. The movie even made me think of Romeo & Juliet as well as Edward Scissorhands, not bad stories to be associated with. The creators never really went into total parody or silly mode, which I think was a smart choice. What really took me out of the picture at several occasions though is that they didnt follow their own internal rules. Were told by our hero that zombies can only shamble slowly, yet not long after, we see zombies running. Its like they can have bursts of speed at will. Also, bonies, for some reason, move fast despite being in a more advanced stage of zombification. Also, I know its a short movie, but zombies evolve too quickly, especially the best friend. Acting was fairly good, not exceptional, but I particularly liked the main character. Why? Because hes a nice, smart freak, quite lonely and having trouble to express his feelings in words and actions, but able to be slowly healed by kindness and love. It made him interesting and relatable to me and probably others. Yes, the movie could even be seen as an allegory on solitude, not fitting in, and how hard it is to truly connect to others in modern society.Zombie makeup was rather minimal, and they managed to make the protagonist kind of attractive, in a goth-like way, mostly because of his great hair and pale blue eyes. I thought there were wasted opportunities with the concept, but it could have been done much, much worse. So, I liked the movie, I would even recommend it to most people not allergic to zombies to see a different take on them. Its very minimally bloody and the most gory part is when they show a zombie shedding his skin to become a bonie, and even thats not too disgusting. I think it would make a good date movie. Warm Bodies didnt leave me cold and the more I dwell on it, the warmer my feelings for it get.Rating: 7 out of 10 (Good)

Review: Now i watched the original film and i liked it,but it was a low budget film..and i love low budget films.This was a great bigger film of a small film,now i read how someone didnt like the CGI blood and didnt care about the characters..are FFFFFnnn kidding me!Why cant people enjoy films anymore?Because they all think their critics.Well i loved this one made my night.If you like horror comedy this one the one to watch.Just the opening sequence got me into it now there is all the clichés of high school and jocks and cheerleaders but thats what we know,am i right.Good vs evil teenage style.In closing i put this up as at least a seven,hell crack a beer and have some fun.
