Review: This movie is a breath of fresh air. That said, you must go into it expecting and understanding of the genre of Magic Realism. I actually read the whole book, Mark Helprin, unlike most professional critics, so I knew what kind of movie it would be and I had a reasonable expectation. The book was about 700 pages, and it was not a Harry Potter-type 700 pages. The novel is very complicated, lengthy, difficult to read and often very confusing work, full of very descriptive images. I found myself reading sections over and over again to understand that I'm still not quite sure where I ended up. In fact, most people I know tried to read, and end up leaving the book for the reasons I just mentioned. After I finished the book, I washed out on the internet trying to find some reviews of the book to help me understand and see that you've really got. To my frustration, I really can not find any full reviews of the book, because I'm pretty sure most people (like me) had a lot of confusion with the story as well! In most of the reviews I've read, people are ripping Akiva Goldsman addition to voice their adaptation was terrible, but I disagree. He had to leave some of the aspects of the book is in the interest of time (for example, the whole story about the characters from the middle of the book missing from the film.) Held the really important parts of the novel and pour them stand on their ovn.Leaving theater I feel like Goldman's interpretation ACTUAL clarify a number of books for me. Incidentally, I went to see a movie with someone who has not read the book and do not know anything about it and he thought it was much better to have critics said too. As a fact, I definitely loved Goldman's ending better than Helprin! I finished the book with a sense of what? Thats it? Is my book missing pages? Version of the film is the way that I wanted the book end.Additionalli, is Helprin wordy descriptions played in my minds eye the beautiful (and not-so-nice) aspects of the story clearly brought to life in a movie with expertly expl rt tug-at-your-heart music and cinematography. So if you are looking for a curse-it-out, shoot-em-up, or a futuristic universe or reality-based film, the cost would be better to rent on DVD. If you are looking for a more philosophical, romantic, provocative fantasy as an escape from most conventional films in theaters today, its worth the ticket price.
